The STEMIE Coalition envisions a nation in which all students have access to invention and entrepreneurship education. The STEMIE Coalition will be a globally-recognized force in enabling every child to have the opportunity to gain the confidence and skills necessary to control their own destiny through invention, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Our mission is to have every child in every school become an inventor and/or entrepreneur, once better twice, in their K-12 career, and instill problem-identification, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and creativity skills for life, through inventing, innovating, and entrepreneurial activities.
10 million students trained annually in invention and entrepreneurship education in all 50 states plus D.C. within five years.
Our children, as students, receive a lot of great education from our nation’s school systems, particularly with a re-energized focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs. With the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and other changes in education frameworks, students now more than ever have the chance to learn real-world application of the knowledge they gain in schools. That’s great; we applaud these efforts. In fact, we take STEM, and then apply it in a way that reflects real-world scenarios. To this effect, the STEMIE Coalition bridges STEM with Invention and Entrepreneurship and that’s how we got our name: STEM + Invention + Entrepreneurship = STEMIE!
The STEMIE Coalition was born from a deep-seated belief that, despite the present level of educational effort, student still need even more real-world skills — specifically invention and entrepreneurship education, which instills more unstructured problem solving, communication, and entrepreneurship skills often not found in other formal in-school programs. These innovation education programs help to more fully prepare students for their future, whether they will be working for themselves or for others. The STEMIE Coalition thinks every child should have invention and entrepreneurship training as a core part of their school career.
The STEMIE Coalition builds and strengthens national K-12 Invention and Entrepreneurship programs with our partners, and forges meaningful pathways among these programs, to ensure that all students have the opportunity to at least once (better twice) experience the process of invention and entrepreneurship in their K-12 career.
Our goal: Teach and celebrate 10 million students annually through these programs to build a solid foundation to power this nation’s continued growth.
