Discovering Inventing

Students will learn the complexities of inventing and claiming the rights to an invention. Students will understand that often times, multiple inventors will claim to have come up with the idea for and creating an invention. They will also understand that some people will be better able to claim invention ideas. In groups they will research and debate the correct inventor of the cotton gin. Students will hear all three sides and then decide the "winner" or true inventor.

Students will learn about electricity in various ways. They will experiment with circuits, learn how electrons move to make things positively or negatively charged, and use a lemon as a battery. They will also be able to watch videos in order to better understand the flow of electricity. Students will understand the importance of electricity and how it affects inventions

Build What I've Created

Students will learn about the importance of giving clear, concise instructions in order to help a friend build something. Students will practice giving directions to a classmate and also listening to directions in order to make a design using math manipulatives. Students must also be able to ask and answer questions to clarify confusion in order to successfully complete the task.
