Interview Conventions

Students will learn the importance of being able to talk about their invention with knowledge and confidence. They will also understand how and why people conduct interviews. Students will predict questions that they may be asked about their inventions. Then, in partners, students will practice being interviewers and interviewees. They will also work on giving and receiving constructive feedback.

Intent to Present

Students will learn that they have to present about their inventions. They will learn about creating display boards and the importance of having organized, easy to read information. Students will look at example boards and begin to create the design for their own. They will make sure they have all necessary information and give and receive peer feedback.

Harnessing Energy

Students will learn about various types of energy, specifically hydropower. They will understand how people use falling water while also conducting an experimental investigation. In groups, students will ask investigable questions and will attempt to answer one using a model water mill. Students will also understand that different variables (independent, dependent, and controlled) play different parts in experiments. They will understand that they must only test one independent variable at a time to get accurate results.
