Invention Log Intro

Students will learn that inventors keep track of their inventions in various ways. They will become familiar with the CT Invention Convention invention log. Students will begin to fill out their log with the details of their own invention. They will also learn that their log will be tracked throughout the process and will be used in the official judging.

Invention Improvement

Students will work to improve an existing invention (ketchup packet) in order to learn that inventions must constantly be improved. Students will understand that inventors ask questions about existing inventions in order to make them better. They will design a new ketchup packet by answering questions and providing reasoning behind their updates. They will also think about whether their invention update is a plausible one.

Intro to Scientific Modeling

This lesson introduces your students to conceptual models, their role in science, and how knowledge is accumulated/build in the scientific community. Students will attempt to model how a windup toy works prior to taking it apart and revisiting their models later in the unit.
